Los planetas enanos son aquellos cuerpos celestes del Sistema Solar que no han limpiado la vecindad de su órbita y tienen la masa suficiente para que su propia gravedad haya superado la fuerza de cuerpo rígido. No son satélites de otros planetas y orbitan alrededor del Sol como cualquier otro planeta.
Los cinco planetas enanos de nuestro sistema planetario y por orden de proximidad al Sol son Ceres, Plutón, Haumea, Makemake y Eris. Ceres es el único planeta enano del Cinturón de asteroides. Los otros cuatro planetas enanos se encuentran más allá de la órbita de Neptuno, excepto cuando la órbita de Plutón se cruza con ésta, y son conocidos como objetos transneptunianos (TNO, del inglés: trans-Neptunian Objects).
